Almost Missed Wedding Proposal

I was thrilled to be part of this long-awaited wedding proposal. Two years ago, I had the pleasure of taking Micah and Mia’s beach session photos. They are such an adorable couple. When they planned to come back to town, Micah wanted to propose in St. Augustine. We initially coordinated to have the proposal at the fort area, but imminent thunderstorms made us relocate to the Plaza de la Constitución, which has a lovely gazebo for shelter in case of rain. I sent a picture showing where to stand, and my daughter, who was in town, was super excited to help with the proposal. She watched for their arrival while I hid with my two cameras, ensuring Mia wouldn’t see me.

They stopped in front of the cannons, and my daughter remarked, “They’re just talking, Mom.” Suddenly, Micah got down on one knee. My daughter screamed, and we began running toward them, almost missing the shots. Micah later said, “I just couldn’t go any further.” Mia humorously added, “I asked him, are we doing it right here?” We laughed about it afterward. One of the bar managers across the street ran over with champagne, and a crowd gathered to watch them dance on the lawn with the drone overhead. I’m sure they won’t forget this day, with the crazy photographer chasing them down!

How did this adorable couple meet? They met six and a half years ago when Mia was in 8th grade, and Micah was a sophomore in high school. Their journey began on Instagram in 2018 when a mutual friend encouraged Micah to message Mia. Initially, she found it odd that a random guy was inquiring about an injured friend, especially since they were cousins. But from that moment on, they never stopped talking. Despite the distance of over two hours between their schools, they maintained a long-distance relationship throughout high school and college. Micah graduated in December and is now teaching special education while serving as the head track coach and assistant football coach. Mia works as a nurse aide and is a full-time nursing student, set to graduate in May 2025. They are planning their wedding for June 2025.
