Nurse Pinning Day
May 6, 2024Congratulations to this graduate for her huge accomplishment.
Nurse pinning day is a significant event in the life of nursing students, marking their transition from student nurses to professional nurses. It’s a ceremonial tradition where nursing students receive their nursing pins, which typically bear the emblem or insignia of their nursing school. The ceremony is often filled with symbolism and rituals that honor the hard work, dedication, and achievements of the students throughout their nursing education.
The history of nurse pinning dates back to the 19th century when Florence Nightingale, the founder of modern nursing, awarded medals of excellence to nursing graduates. Over time, this practice evolved into the tradition of presenting nursing pins during graduation ceremonies.
During the ceremony, each nurse lit a candle which represents knowledge and compassion. They recited the Florence Nightingale’s Pledge, and each nurse chose a significant family member, spouse, or friend to place the pin on their uniform.
This day holds deep significance for each student as it symbolizes their readiness to begin their nursing professional serving as caregivers and advocates for patients. With great pride from loved ones, this young lady began her new journey as a registered nurse.
Congratulations.
